OUR ISSUES

THE CHALLENGES WE FACE AND WILL OVERCOME WITH YOUR SUPPORT

CANCER

Nearly a third of fire fighters may not survive due to cancer, and we are currently in the fight of our lives for fair and just cancer presumption coverage from the carcinogenic exposures we face routinely on the job.

SLEEP DEPRIVATION

Calls through the night interrupt the circadian rhythm, and act as a gateway to a myriad of of negative health consequences.  Increased demands for service with lack of strategic growth compound this issue, introducing unparalleled sleep disturbances in our department today.

FIRE DEPARTMENT FUNDING

City hall has put public safety on the back burner with your tax dollars for far too long, and our only hope is to get YOU behind us to put tax dollars where they belong - protecting you and your loved ones, your property, and the great businesses in our community.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

For over a decade, the City of Lynchburg has let the brave heroes that protect our community fall behind the economy to a startling level.  Public safety servants are respected and held to a high regard in the community, but not in city hall.

UNSUSTAINABLE RISES IN CALL VOLUME

Since 2007. we have increased Emergency Medical Service Response by over an alarming 40%.  With this increase, we have not experienced appropriate strategic growth.

RECRUITMENT & RETENTION

Our organization wants the City of Lynchburg to adopt talent recruitment and retention strategies for emergency responders that put the lives of our members and the community we serve as the highest priority in public policy and decision making.

STAFFING

The City of Lynchburg has allowed staffing at the department to remain stagnant for over a decade, while we are challenged with more than we have ever faced one 24-hour shift at a time.
